Attention Halfmoon Bay residents in the Green and Pink Wednesday Curbside Collection Zones

For the upcoming holidays garbage and food waste collection will move from Wednesdays to Saturdays. Collection on December 25, will move to December 28 AND January 1 will move to January 4. Curbside Food Waste Collection

Food waste is collected weekly.

Egmont / Pender Harbour residents can self-haul food waste to the Pender Harbour Transfer Station.

Here are some important things to know about your curbside food waste collection:

  • The SCRD provides a 45-litre green bin. If your green bin goes missing please contact 604-885-6806.
  • The maximum weight that can be collected is 20 kilograms (44 lbs).
  • Bin must be placed at the end of your driveway by 8:00 a.m. on the morning of your collection.
  • Compostable plastic bags allowed as bin liners – must say “BPI Certified Compostable”

  • Bread and pastries
  • Dairy – dairy products, cheese, eggs/shells
  • Fish – raw, cooked, bones, soft shells from lobster, crab or shrimp
  • Fruit and vegetables – raw, cooked, whole, peelings
  • Meat and bones – raw, cooked or bones
  • Tea and coffee grounds – paper tea bags, tea leaves, coffee grounds & filters
  • Food soiled paper – paper towels, paper plates, paper napkins, food soiled cardboard, food soiled newspaper (e.g. food wrapped in newspaper)
  • Cut flowers, flower bunches and house plant cuttings

  • Garbage
  • Liquids of any kind
  • Butcher, parchment or waxed paper
  • Dryer lint, vacuum contents
  • Elastics, staples, twist ties
  • Hair – pet or human
  • Hard shells from clams or oysters
  • Plastics of any kind, including compostable or biodegradable as these are not compatible with our local composting facility
  • Pet waste, pet hair or pet litter
  • Recyclables such as newspaper, paper, metal/plastic containers; please take these to the recyling depot
  • Stickers on produce
  • Yard or garden green waste
