Accessibility Resources
If you need some assistance using our recreation facilities, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) offers some options which may help.
Free admission is provided to the attendant of a person with a disability who requires support to participate in recreation programs and services offered by the SCRD. Support is defined as assistance of a physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual or sensory nature, which is necessary to ensure that the person with a disability is able to fully participate. If an attendant is required, then the attendant must remain with the person with a disability at all times while at the recreation site.

Thera-Vital Trainers
Thanks to the local M.S. Support Group and their fundraising efforts, Gibsons and Area Community Centre has two Thera-Vital trainers. These trainers provide a passive and active workout option for individuals with neurological and muscular degenerative diseases, providing motorized assistance to work out arms and legs.
The machines can be used from a wheelchair or sturdy chair. Instructions on how to use this equipment are available at the facility.
SciFit Pro Series
The SciFit Pro2 Total Body is available for use at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre and the Pender Harbour Aquatic Fitness Centre. This machine is an upper body exerciser and lower body recumbent bike all in one machine. You can use both upper or lower cranks individually or at the same time. Passive assistance is also available to help further create versatile exercises and aid in rehab. The SciFit machines provide easy accessibility with adjustable and removable seats as well as three different crank length.
Feel free to ask staff if you require more information on how to use these pieces of equipment.
