Housing Needs Report
The Sunshine Coast Regional District’s (SCRD) Housing Needs Report provides current and anticipated housing needs over the next five and twenty years in the Electoral Areas of Pender Harbour/Egmont, Halfmoon Bay, Roberts Creek, Elphinstone, and West Howe Sound. The report findings will be used to inform future regional planning, servicing, and housing initiatives.
The Sunshine Coast Regional District completed a Housing Needs Report in November 2024.
Housing Needs Reports provide key data and statistics on current population, households, economy, community, and housing, as well as projected demographic changes.
Core Housing Needs data, housing standards, and housing market indicators are used to consider the extent of housing need that is currently unmet. Population and household projections serve as a basis to anticipate future housing need.
In November 2023, the Province introduced a new standardized methodology for local governments to estimate the number of housing units needed over 5 and 20 years to support a healthy housing market.
Housing Needs Reports therefore provide important information on the state of local housing and anticipated future trends. They help tailor public policies accordingly, such as our Official Community Plans.
In 2020 Sunshine Coast Regional District, Town of Gibsons, and District of Sechelt partnered to produce the region’s first Housing Needs Assessment.
