What we don’t do
The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) provides over 45 services to our community, however we often get questions about services we do not provide. Check out the list below, along with the appropriate contact information for those who are responsible for the services.
Roads
Maintenance of the Sunshine Coast Highway and all roads in the rural areas on the Sunshine Coast are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) and their contractor Capilano Highways.
Contact Capilano Highway Services at 604-983-2411 and via www.millercapilanohs.ca
Contact the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure directly at 604-527-2221.
Snow Removal
Just like maintenance on our roads, snow removal is also the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) and their contractor Capilano Highway Services.
Contact Capilano Highway Services at 604-983-2411 and via www.millercapilanohs.ca
Ferries
While members of the SCRD Board do sit on a Ferry Advisory Committee, the SCRD is not responsible for ferry service to and from the Sunshine Coast. If you have questions about ferry service, please contact BC Ferries via www.bcferries.com
Hazard Tree Removal on Private Property
Property owners are responsible for removing hazard trees. The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is responsible for removing hazard trees on SCRD properties and in parks.
Issue Property Tax Notices
During the month of June you will receive your property tax notice. If you are a rural property owner in the SCRD, your tax notice is sent to you from the Surveyor of Taxes.
Regional Districts do not collect taxes directly from the taxpayer. Instead, taxes for Regional District purposes are collected by the Province and by the member municipalities (Town of Gibsons, District of Sechelt, and shíshálh Nation Government District).
If you have questions about your property taxes contact the BC Provincial Government.
Invasive Plant Species
The SCRD is not responsible for the removal of invasive plant species. The links below provide information on the types of invasive plant species and how you can report it to the appropriate organizations.
- Provincial information about invasive species
- Invasive Species Council of BC
- Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver
Hotline: 250-871-5117 (please leave a message, they will call you back!)
Development outside of the regional district
The SCRD is responsible for planning and development in the rural areas on the Sunshine Coast. Before you email or call, please search the address you have questions about to ensure that it is not located in the District of Sechelt, the Town of Gibsons or the Sechelt Nation Government District. Links to each of these municipalities can be found below.
